Blood Noir Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Book 16 Laurell K Hamilton 9780425222195 Books Reviews
I enjoyed the earlier Anita Blake books... LKH's heroine was different and for once - a strong female lead. She gradually went from being a prude to being a prude that was "oh-so-guilty" over having sex to a pure nymphomaniac. I didn't much like Anita when LKH made her so powerful - in fact, indestructible - that she was no longer realistic/sympathetic as a character. I think this was just prior to the horrible "Incubus Dreams" which was like a metaphysical train wreck. Reading that novel made my head spin... there was NO plot. At least I made it through Blood Noir without wanting to bang my head against the wall. This series has gone 'round the bend. I recommened Tanya Huff's Victoria Nelson series. Huff remained true to her characters and ended the series when the story played out... she let them leave on a good note. LKH needs to end the AB series before she completely destroys every character... Jean-Claude and Asher have lost their bite and Richard is a wet dog... -(
Anita goes with Jason to see his dying father. They find drama and intrigue. A master vampire has been slurred by a lookalike to Jason. The the trouble with mommy dark when it rains it pours
I've had this installment of the Anita Blake series in my nightstand for over a year because I grew tired of the reoccuring issues/themes in the last couple of books; pissing contests with police or other law enforcement because she's a woman, guilt over ardeur and inability to control it, repetitiveness of sayings from book to book, as well as within the same book, lack of Jean Claude as a major character, etc. So, finally decided to pick it up after a year of stalling and again found myself disappointed and bored. Same issues occur within this book, except now there's a total lack of storyline. So, this will be the last time I make a Laurell K. Hamilton purchase (not just Anita Blake related, but all other publications also). I would like to finish the series in hopes that the flash of brillance seen in the first couple of books returns. However, I will be borrowing from the library from now on since these books are not worth spending money on.
I tried so hard with this series, but this was it for me. So many times I just wanted to throw my kindle...And I love my kindle. It was just so much more nonsense. I probably won't read the next book. I couldn't get past how incredibly far from the original story these books have gotten. Anita Blake acquires new "skills" and lovers like most people acquire debt and garbage. After awhile, it's just not entertaining at all. The only reason I even got this book (after the last few books going down hill) was the benefit of the doubt I was giving Hamilton. Sadly, it wasn't up to par. I wish she would have brought the old Anita back.
The stories seemed to have dropped off, and sex as well as character building are taking over. However, the sex parts aren't as overly played as previous books, but still same old descriptions. Hope it gets back to mixing story with the rest soon.
It isn't quite the porno of some of the previous books. There is a lot of Anita sweating over silly crap that goes on for pages and pages. The scary part, yes part, was up to the usual standard, but seemed tacked on. The mother of all vampires makes a brief visit. Totally a drive-by. The entire book felt like "gee, I have a house payment coming up so let's crank out something quick". Very little in character or plot development. Richard shows up pretty much long enough to do an attempted rape and then leave in a huff. Had the, now mandatory, group sex, but skipped most of the details. Well the second one did anyway, thank goodness. Laurell, PLEASE QUIT WRITING PORNO. You have other series to do that crap. Just write the adventure and violence and scary and "how in the world will she survive this". You are the best at that. But when you have Anita whining and freaking out over crap that she did about a chapter back and then silly, detailed sex... Come on. With that said, I pre-ordered Skin Trade. Looks like Edward is back. Loved those. Action, Adventure, not just jerking material. Well, I hope. Maybe I just funded some more of Laurell's fetish wear.
Anita goes home with Jason after he finds out his father is dying and he has just broken up with his girlfriend. Problems stack up Jason style. Mother of darkness, Jason's school mate that looks like his twin, this with most of the girls from school looking like his sisters, an other Master of a City after Jason. Etc. Action packed erotica, new weretiger, New powers all in this paranormal adventure. Well-written storyline with well-developed characterization add to this books. Adult readers due sexual and violent content.
So sick of Hamilton. Everything she writes has become porn.
